My husband and I just found out we are having a baby GIRL!!! Yes, we are officially having a baby. Not that this is an excuse for being a bad blogger, I'm just a wee bit distracted. I'm sure you understand!

So of course the first thing I did was plan the nursery. Since we live by the water, I wanted it to have a slight beachy vibe without being too "themey." Check out my initial inspiration board. More details to come!! Oh and yes, we are naming her Olivia, Olivia Jane :)

Don't get me wrong, I love my high heels! But more and more often, you will see me in flats. While I rarely go a season without a new Miu Miu pair (my favorite!), I've been wearing my Sue Londons almost daily. Sue London ballet flats are seriously the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn! There is absolutely no need to drop $600 on plain Lanvin flats when you can snatch a pair of these for under $200.

Yes, I've been M.I.A. No, I didn't give up on the blog, it's just been a crazy summer. Between my home being turned into a B&B (my fault for living @ the beach) and traveling for work, I've been a mad woman.

But one fun thing I do have to share, is that I've begun helping my friends update their home decor. Interior Design is something I've dreamed about pursuing for EVER and I'm finally beginning to do it! SHELTER already did a fabulous post on Jenna Lyons and her recent interview on Oprah, so I won't be (too) repetitive. But seeing her on Oprah did inspire me to post something on my beloved J. Crew. I admit to having a serious J. Crew addiction and Jenna is the one continuously feeding me the crack!! In fact, my first post was about J. Crew!

Whenever a new catalog comes out, I always love every one of her picks....whenever I see a feature on her in a magazine, I always love everything about her style. There are few people who truly inspire me and she is one of them! (also, check out this article about Jenna).....

Speaking of Jenna's Picks. If you ever see something you love, act quickly, because these things sell out!! Including this little number......

Luckily I called my J. Crew personal shopper at the Malibu location the minute I saw it online and secured one!! If you shop at J. Crew as often as me, you really should find a sales associate that you love working with, because it really helps when you want to find things that are hard to get. Good rule of thumb wherever you shop. If you are loyal to a salesperson, they will go above and beyond for you.

Palm Springs is like California's version of the Hamptons. I've grown up spending time in the desert since most of my mom's family resides there. My parents have a home in Rancho Mirage, so we are lucky enough to have a free place to stay. Last weekend, my husband and I needed a little break from life and wanted some place WARM. Our first thought was Miami, but as you've seen on the news, they have been having unusually cold temps lately. So we decided on the Parker.........

We have eaten dinner many times at the Parker but obviously never stayed there. For those that don't know, Jonathan Adler designed the hotel, which opened in 2004. He had this idea that the hotel should be like "your great aunt's estate." I wish I had family this cool....

Oh the "Drugs" sign, it's a vintage sign from an old pharmacy. Whenever we visit here, we end up taking pics with the sign in the background......just because we think it's kitchy

I couldn't wait to see the rooms in person....and they did not dissapoint...

The only thing I currently "collect" would be handbags and shoes. Well, I do have a pretty awesome collection of matches and cookbooks, but that isn't where I'm going with this. Windsor Smith encourages clients to collect things because it makes a house a home. I couldn't agree more, so it got me thinking.......

I was scanning through my iPhone pics recently, and I came across the above shot I took while having dinner at Fig. A huge wall full of mirrors. I don't care how trendy or played out Starburst Mirrors may be in the decor world, I love them. I have one in my living room and one over the bed in my guest room. Hmmm, lets see how much this project might cost me........

I love to throw parties. This year, I went with a Tacky Sweater Christmas theme. It was fun and my friends really went to town on their costumes. But next year, I am going with something more sophisticated.

I know we are supposed to be planning New Year's Eve, and Christmas is so last week, but I read about this Holiday Party theme and I had to share! It was a Holiday White Party (I know, very P. Diddy) and it was so beautiful! I have a ton of silver and "blingy" decorations, so I am ready for next year. Talk about planning ahead!

The party was styled and coordinated by Jenn Sbranti of "Hostess with the Mostess." A fun online resource for party ideas with a "modern" twist. If you haven't seen it, you must check it out!! All images belong to her as well!

Santa delivered lots of fun new books this year. While perusing Style and Substance, I noticed a kitchen on page 118, that I fell in love with. It belonged to Delphine and Reed Krakoff and was published in Elle Decor back in September '06. I had to see more of the house this kitchen belonged to!! When I moved to LA from NYC three years ago, I threw out a bunch of old magazines (even the first Domino!) that I could kick myself for, including this issue. Luckily, Ms. Delphine has a web site for her design firm, Pamplemousee Inc., with images. The rest of the house is just as fab. I also learned that the family put this house on the market a few years ago (thanks real estalker!) for a cool 12 million.......worth every penny if you ask me!

The chairs are what got me. I want to do faux ostrich cushions on Elkins chairs in that color for my Dining Room!! So inspired.

Great color combo if you are doing a nursery and not finding out the sex...

Fall is finally here!! So excited to finally break out my new boots, leggings and cozy sweaters! I don't eat sweets often so I'm not a fan of baking. I would rather treat myself to one of these cupcakes than make my own. But there are a few things I love to make in October that involve my favorite candy of all time, the candy corn! These would also be really easy and fun to have your children make..........

Heather's Spooky Chex Mix

Candy Corn and Pumpkins

Rice Chex Cereal

Salted Spanish Peanuts

Halloween M&M's

Pretzels**

(**I use Goldfish pretzels since they are similar in size to the other ingredients)

Just mix and EAT!! No baking required.

Pumpkin Cookie Cakes

My friend Megan taught me how to make these, so simple!!

1 large can of 100% pure Pumpkin (NOT the Pie filling)

1 Box Spice Cake Mix

1 tub of Cream Cheese Frosting

Candy Corns

Pre-heat oven to 350. Mix the pumpkin and the cake mix together. Drop spoon-fulls onto a cookie sheet and bake until done (around 15-20 minutes). Cool, then ice with cream cheese frosting and garnish with candy corns.

First off, I know I've been a very bad blogger. In fact, I've been so bad that perhaps no one may even read this! I just got back from fashion week in NYC. While some go to sit in front rows of shows and air kiss celebrities, I'm there to work. Long days of work, followed by long nights of fun, have left me in need of a deep-tissue massage, the Master Cleanse, and rehab. However, I did have a chance to sneak in some shopping. Shopping days, in my opinion, should always end with a glass of wine or a sweet treat (back to my need of the Master Cleanse). And now there is the perfect place to find such girly indulgence.....Sweet Revenge!!

When I heard about this place, I had one of those "Damn!! Why didn't I think of that!" moments. I mean cupcakes and wine pairings!? So simple but so decadent. The owner was working behind the bar and was as sweet as her delicious cupcakes.

My friend and I indulged in the "Pure" (a classic vanilla cake with vanilla frosting) and the "Crimson & Cream" (her twist on the iconic Red Velvet). While we decided to go with a clean glass of Prosecco, there are over 10 pairings of both wine and beer options to enhance your cupcake enjoyment. You must stop in during your next visit to NYC, you won't be disappointed.......you can repent when you get home!

Because there is a new margarita to love. I had dinner with my parents last week at Sol, a new Mexican spot near their home. As you know, I love a drink with a little kick. So when I saw a margarita with cucumber AND jalapeno, I had to try it! Now I'm completely obsessed and even found a recipe online so I could make them at home. Try one tonight (or today, I don't judge), you won't be disappointed!! Oh and there is no mix, in case you are watching your sugar intake.

Based on Tim Love's Jalapeno Cucumber Margarita

Lonesome Dove, Fort Worth, Texas

(Serves 4)

8 1/8-inch slices of jalapeno

8 1/8-inch slices of cucumber

2 packets of Splenda (he uses real sugar)

8 oz. Cointreau

10 oz. Patron Silver tequila

Juice from 2 limes

4 lime wedges

Large ice cubes

Kosher salt

Using a mortar and pestle, grind 4 slices jalepeno, 4 slices cucumber into 1/4 cup sugar. Pour mixture into a shaker. Add tequila, Cointreau and lime juice. Fill shaker with ice and shake heavily. Rub rim of 4 highball glasses with lime wedges and coat with salt. Fill with ice. Give the shaker one more shake and strain contents into each glass. Garnish with jalapeno and cucumber slices.

I love a classic brown leather as much as the next person, but there is something about a blue leather that I adore. I was reminded of this last week when I had dinner at Cecconi's in LA. I love how the decor is neutral with a pop of color from the gorgeous blue leather.

I make it a point whenever I'm in New York to have lunch at BG, just to soak in the decor. Aside from the amazing wallpaper, my favorite thing about this space are the chairs! The colors Wearstler chose for the various leather chairs are so beautiful.

Fall is Here!

Well, in my world it is. Working in fashion, you are always a season or two ahead. So while I may be wearing a maxi dress and sandals, I'm already thinking about boots and sweaters (that may be a slight exaggeration!). I'm really trying to be picky and strategic about what I buy for Fall. I'm trying to streamline my wardrobe, buy fewer things....... but higher quality and timeless. These definitely meet the requirements........

In this economic climate, there are very few things that have a "list" anymore. I remember a few years ago people fought over the Chloe Paddington, now they are collecting dust on the shelves. The Hunter/Jimmy Choo collaboration did get some press and there was an actual list for these boots. In fact, I already saw them on eBay for about double the retail value. I wouldn't go that far to have them, but I was lucky that I knew the associate who bumped me up to the top of the list (that is the secret, always maintain a good relationship with the salesperson).

My amazing mother just bought me the above headboard from Pottery Barn for my master bedroom. I love it, but the color is off and clashes with my white dresser (the headboard color is an off-white). So reality trumped fantasy with my outdoor pillow project. We are throwing a 4th of July party and I didn't have enough time to order custom pillows for my sectional. Thank God for West Elm. I found adorable outdoor pillows there, plus they were on SALE!! All of my pillows, covers and inserts, for under a hundred dollars. Yay! More money for shoes :)

Speaking of 4th of July, I've been shopping and planning like a mad woman.......total Martha style. I'm even making my guests wear red, white and blue. I know, get a life!! Ha....

Summer, Summer, Summertime......

We just got back from visiting my in-laws, who live on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina (it was HOT!!! ugh). Every time I visit I always pray to run into one of Paula Deen's hot sons, but this time I discovered something even better.....Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka!! Each restaurant we went to seemed to have a special drink concoction using this amazing product. I have always been a fan of the Arnold Palmer, but this addition makes it even better! (although this is not calorie free, so you better stick to one) Luckily for the rest of the country, BevMo now stocks it! I just bought some to serve with lemonade at my 4th of July party, does it get more summer than lemonade and (vodka) iced tea? Cheers!!

The sunsets alone are worth the visit!

Okay so after receiving the estimate from Patio Culture, I knew I could do it much more affordably on my own. I already knew what fabric and size pillows I wanted, plus I have a resource to order fabric, so no need to pay four times the amount.... as much as I wanted to support them because I love the concept of the shop. Can't wait to post pics of my roof once it is all done!

I was in San Francisco for work last week, and stumbled upon Banana Republic's new concept store called "Edition." It is full of accessories, namely jewelry. I have to admit, I don't buy much from Banana these days, I'd rather save and splurge on something better quality. I think that J. Crew does a much better job in this arena and their jewelry is more stylish. However, I think BR did a great job in the cocktail ring department. I left the store with this little number......

If you live in SF or will be there in the future, check it out! The store is located in the Westfield Mall where Bloomingdale's and Nordstroms are located, off of Market St. Here are a few of my favorites, and you can even save yourself the trip and buy them online.....

This one below was my FAVE. It runs VERY small and I almost died trying to get it off my finger. If you have unusually skinny fingers, it might work for you!!

P.S. The staff here is top notch. Nordstrom quality customer service.......just had to mention it.

I love blue and white chinese porcelain and have been trying to incorporate it into my decor. So when I saw this new bedding by Ralph Lauren at Bloomingdale's, it was love at first site. I love how they merchandised it with pink. If only my husband would allow pink walls in our bedroom. I decided to just go with the sheets and mix it in with my white duvet/euro shams.

I love a little fun update that doesn't break the bank! Thank you Bloomingdale's for all of your fabulous sales!!

I have a thing for plain white towels. I just think it looks fresh and often times I find that prints and colors can look cheesy. Living in Los Angeles, there are so many options when it comes to eating and drinking and it's easy to miss a gem. I had drinks last night at the Penthouse at the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica, and it was fabulous. Panoramic views of Los Angeles, great atmosphere, great bartender, and even better cocktail. I admit I'm not a fan of the name, but after the first sip, you won't care what it's called.

The Celery Filthy Sexy**

2 parts Herradura Silver Tequila

3 parts fresh celery juice

2 parts fresh squeezed lime

splash of Cointreau

1 slice of a Serrano chili

I was ECSTATIC to here from Rachel Kamerman, the production designer of Privileged!! She kindly shared some details about Rose and Sage's glamorous bedroom!

The bed is custom-made through Grace Home Furnishings in Brentwood. The fabric used for the bedding is Poppea by Silk Trading Company and is $195 a yard. She chose the chocolate/turquoise for Rose and the pink/chartreuse for Sage. You can order the fabric here.

It's been 24 hours since I found out that Domino is done. Like all of you, I was very sad and disappointed. First H&G, then Blueprint, In Style Home, O at Home, Cottage Living (that one really hurt) and now DOMINO!!??? So, for me, it's down to Arch Digest, Western Interiors, House Beautiful and Elle Decor. Those are all beautiful magazines, but in my opinion, they target a slightly older audience. I spent some time scrambling to organize all of my favorite Domino images, so I thought I'd post them here in one spot. At least they will always be available to you here......Oh and I even tried to order back issues, and they are sold out!!!!!

Props to Trina Turk's PR team, because she is mentioned in Domino TWICE this month! Trina Turk is not only known for her fabulous clothes, but for her glamorous stores! She hired Kelly Wearstler to design her clothing boutiques and they are serious eye candy........

Well now Trina and Kelly have one more thing in common.....a collaboration with Schumacher!! Domino announced in their new February issue that Turk designed a new line of outdoor fabrics. The "Arches Print" in Bamboo is my favorite (that would be the yellow one in the middle, this scan is horrible, sorry!!!).

And the next time you are in the desert, you must check out Trina Turk Residential on Palm Canyon. The store carries items made with her signature prints, plus loads of others (like Missoni Home!!). I always make a trip to her shops when I'm out there (after hitting up J. Crew Resort of course!).

You can always count on Anthropologie for fun monogrammed gift ideas. Who hasn't given/received this coffee mug in the last few years? There are several fabulous options on their site, but these little cuties caught my eye......

I decided to personalize my gift wrap (for the females) by attaching these to their gift. I chose the first letter of their name. I love that they don't look totally "Christmassy" so you could hang them somewhere in your home all year.

Every December, women (and some men) rush to Trader Joe's to snatch up Peony flowers at bargain prices. These are my favorite flowers (just ahead of white hydrangeas) so of course I snatched up all the good looking bunches. Isn't Trader Joe's just the best place ever? I also picked up their new edamame hummus which looks quite appetizing, I'll let you know how it is.......

I am a little obsessed with leopard print. I own four leopard print cardigans, six leopard print shoes (from J. Crew to Louboutin), had all leopard-print bedding in college (that was not so cute), I really could go on and on. I'm so excited that Michelle over at Rubie Green has come out with an eco-friendly leopard print for Fall!!

Sometimes leopard prints can be too much so I love how light and airy this one feels. Now I need to think of where I would use it, a Louis chair perhaps?

The art of the invitation has been lost by our generation. A formal invite is way more personal and chic than an E-vite. My husband is the one planning my 30th b-day but I begged him to let me pick out the invites. I went with this one......

So what if I'm turning 30 in a couple of months, does that mean I can't like a show written for teenagers? I think Privileged on the CW is not only entertaining, but full of fun decor. Most noteworthy is the twin's, Sage (loving that name) and Rose, room. I love the Hollywood meets Palm Beach decor, so up my ally. If you haven't already watched it in secret, check it out next Tuesday night! It's basically the new Gilmore Girls....... for lack of a better comparison.

The first thing that grabbed my attention were the headboards, I couldn't find a shot of both beds, but you get the idea....

My Mom is in Country Living!!

Please go and purchase the September issue of Country Living!!! My mom and step-dad's cottage is featured. It is beyond exciting to actually know and frequent a home in a decor mag. My mom designed the entire place, start to finish, with an "empty-nest" in mind. The main house is only 1 bedroom/1.5 bathroom and then there is an apartment above the garage which my college-aged sister takes over during the summers. I'm so impressed by my mom, she has no formal design background at all, but can turn any room into something extraordinary. My mom is so funny and shy about it, she is like "It's not like I'm in Arch Digest or something." But seriously, how many people can say their home has been published? And I'm a big Cottage Living fan, same family of mags, right? Here it is!!!!!

I knew the outside of Tori and Dean's new house was bogus. It reminded me of a house you would find in OC or the Valley, not LA proper. Read all about it here.......At least the inside was for reals. I didn't love everything they did with the house but I did fall in love with a few rooms. Especially little Liams!!! I also loved their photo wall they had going up the staircase, wish I could find a pic of that.

I just moved into a new place and have been feverishly trying to put it together. Of course when you move into a new place it is a great excuse to go buck wild and re-decorate. While scouring the Internet and local shops, I have been carrying a tear sheet from the April 2008 issue of Domino because it totally inspires me.......

It is from the Domino "10 designers to watch"....her name is Katie Stassi. All the Best interviewed her a couple of months ago (great blog fyi!). Anyway, I love her decorating style and fell in love with the images on her Web site. She is all about combining modern pieces with vintage which is my favorite. I thought I'd share a few shots that I'm currently drooling over. I Can't wait to see more of her work in my favorite decor mags!!!

1. What did you do 10 years ago?

Well I was 19 years old, going into my Junior year at San Diego State. I was probably at a Sigma Chi party doing a keg stand wearing a hideous outfit from Bebe. I was also an intern at KNSD, the local NBC station, with dreams of being an anchor woman.

2. Five items on my to-do list today:

Today is Sunday and there is ZERO on my list......except the pool and barbecuing.

3. Snacks I enjoy:

Cracker Barrel w/crackers and a glass of Chardonnay......Tuscan white bean hummus from Trader Joe's with pita chips........Guac with anything!!!

4. What would you do if you were a billionaire?

What wouldn't I do??? Tell my husband to quit his job. Then buy major real estate..... a house on the water in my hometown (Newport Beach), wine country estate in Healdsburg, and then a penthouse in NYC for my husband. Buy my parents and his parents a home of their choice. I would of course donate money to charity, focusing on education and women's health. Buy a private jet and travel the world. I would create a closet that would put Mariah Carey's to shame, and fill it with obnoxious amounts of designer clothes. Throw fabulous parties for all of my friends. Buy my way into hosting a TV show on Food Network where I travelled the world eating and drinking my face off. Then pay for the best trainers and plastic surgeons in the world to help keep my body in shape. Shit I'm vain....ahahaaaaa.

Birthday Picnic

It's my husband's birthday today and what better place to celebrate than the beach! We love Zuma Beach and on the weekend we usually tie in brunch at The Sunset.

Today I thought it would be more fun to pack a picnic. I thought I'd share the menu....

Orzo salad with fresh citrus and red onion, T.M.P (tomato, mozzarella and proscuitto) sandwiches, and Tuscan Kettle chips (they are so addicting!). No birthday is complete without booze so of course we snuck a bottle of Rose onto the beach (in fraternity style plastic red cups). You guys must try the pasta salad I made! I saw Giada make this on Everyday Italian. Giada used fregola pasta which I couldn't find at Whole Foods, so I used orzo. So refreshing and perfect on a warm, sunny day. The birthday boy was a big fan :)

Whatever you decide to eat, there is no better setting for a picnic! Happy Summer.

One Hip Baby Momma

I feel like something is in the water, I have four girlfriends who are pregnant and another friend who just had twins!! Whatever you are drinking ladies I need some, I'm not having any luck yet. But this blog is about fluff not fertility so back to it.......I just attended a baby shower for one of my most stylish friends. She is having a boy and they are naming him Cash....so cute. Her theme for his nursery is yellow and black which in turn was also the color theme of the shower. Instead of the usual baby gifts, books were requested instead to fill Cash's future library.

The place card can later be used as a bookmark, part of the "library" themed shower.

When you can turn it into a pool house instead!!! Okay, first off I know I have been M.I.A. and I apologize. Hopefully one or two of you still read this occasionally. Maybe it is because on my days off I am by the pool instead of in front of the computer. Which inspired this post....

The backyard that first inspired me, featured in both C Magazine and Bazaar (I threw out both mags but I believe Mary McDonald or Ruthie Sommers decorated the home this pool belongs to). A lot of homes in LA that were built in the '20s have detached garages.... so I love this conversion and it is so much better than a musty garage!

Tia Zoldan featured In Cottage Living

Cottage Living has a major crush on Tia Zoldan and so do I! She has a fabulous eye and great taste. Aside from living in the same neighborhood, we share a love for starting with white walls/sofas and letting accents be your pop of color. Changing throw pillows is a hobby! But back to the post....

Cottage Living featured Zoldan's backyard (her third appearance in the mag) and it brought me back to the pool house/garage idea. (It also includes some great recipes for a backyard bash, I'm dying to try the Southern Godfather recipe.......it sounds like a great cocktail).

Katie Lee Joel - BFF Material

Katie Lee Joel, wife of Billy Joel, is my new favorite! I had heard of her of course, but never really paid attention until I watched her on Oprah this week. She is gorgeous, chic, seems very down to earth.....and loves to cook. She has a great closet too, not that it matters.....but......

She was on Oprah promoting her new cookbook, The Comfort Table.

She also gave us a tour of her West Village home, decorated by Oprah fave Nate Berkus. She is like a hot, young, hip version of Paula Deen...... without the excess butter. I can't wait to add her new book to my collection. I may even have try her M eat Loaf recipe on my husband this week!

Mindy Weiss in O @ Home

For those of you who have ever picked up In Style Weddings or watched any celebrity wedding special, you have heard the name Mindy Weiss. She is the super-talented party planner to the stars.

I was at the airport recently and thought I'd buy a few magazines I don't normally read. I was ecstatic to find Weiss' home in the new issue of Oprah at Home. There are so man elements of her home that inspired me, especially in her dining room! A lot of the furniture in her home can be found at Grace Home Furnishings in Brentwood, one of my favorite stores in Los Angeles.

Her dining room is to die for! It is the perfect mix of traditional and Hollywood Regency. I love her Elkins chairs (covered in KWID's Emerald Cut in mink/ivory). And every home should have a touch of blue and white Chinese porcelain.......in my book anyway!

Weiss spends her free time scouring flea markets and e-bay and she has amazing collections. My favorite is her collection of "lady portraits" from the '50s and '60s. I love how the room isn't overtly feminine, despite the pink chairs and portraits.

One room that should be feminine - the closet! There have been some pretty amazing closets featured in magazines, but Weiss' is my new crush. The tufted ceilings are so luxurious. She also used vintage brooches as drawer-pulls. What a great idea! You could also go to Anthropologie and pick out a mix of vintage-inspired pulls. Hmmm new project perhaps!

I am totally obsessed with Gossip Girl so I can't wait for new episodes!!!! One of the main reasons I love the show is the wardrobe. I adore the outfits; each character has a distinct style and I often recognize pieces they wear. My fave by far (perhaps it is my age, haha) is the character Lily Van der Woodsen. She always looks sophisticated and polished without appearing dowdy. This video is a good one if you are a fan of her character. For a little style inspiration, I picked out a few items Lily would approve!

I know Schumacher's "Chiang Mai" has been blogged before, but I thought it would be fun to share a few pictures of how my mom and I used the fabric. We both used it for pillows, but that is where the similarity ends. I love how well it works in both of our rooms.

MOTHER-

My mom's living room. This a really bad picture taken with a camera phone. Hard to tell in this shot, but the fabric has beautiful shades of blue and green. Along with other turquoise accents (not shown) in her living room, it really pops the blue and white scheme. I love her home, she did such a fantastic job decorating it.

DAUGHTER-

Will it ever stop raining? I feel like it never will. Living in Southern California I rarely dream of escaping the elements but I need some sun!!! I'm going to be Vitamin D deficient. I think I need to get on a plane back to South Beach ASAP....

After a long day by the beach, one of my favorite spots for dinner is Casa Tua. You feel like you are dining in someones chic beach cottage and the food is outstanding. There is also a private club on the second level and an adjacent boutique hotel. Casa Tua is run by Leticia and Miky Grendene, a gorgeous couple, who have backgrounds in the fashion industry. Even more than the food, I love the decor. I took a few snapshots last time I was there (I'm no pro, so don't judge!).

I love the zebra mirror! It adds some glamour to the coastal cottage feel.

You must go there the next time you visit Miami!! For now, I'm putting on my trench coat and wellies.....

It's been rainy and gloomy here in LA, so I've started some "pre-Spring" cleaning. I won't bore you with my entire list, but here are a few things...... I took a yard of fabric, that I've had in the corner of my bedroom collecting dust for 6 months (yes it was still in the packaging), to the upholster to finally get a pillow case made. I cleaned out my fridge and my closet (okay, part of it!). The one thing I didn't accomplish was fixing my cushion situation. Ugh.....

I ordered the circle cut-out chairs from West Elm as a budget alternative to Chippendale chairs (I wish I had just waited and ordered the WS Home or Jonathan Adler ones, oh well). The cut-out chairs actually look great in person. I even put them together all by myself (woo woo) but then opened the cushions to discover that they don't even fit the darn chair. Did I call up customer service to complain or return them to the store? No, of course not!! Instead, we've been sitting on ill-fitting cushions for months now. I take them off when guests come over, so no one notices them. This is just ridiculous. I'm done. I know I need new to have new cushions made, but I can't decide on a fabric for the cushions. I've toyed with plain turquoise but is that boring?

So now I ask your help, dear design experts........any fabric suggestions for my new cushions??

My dining room and living room are adjacent so the colors need to flow. The only graphic in the space is the KWID fabric on the pillows above and other accent colors are orange and turquoise. I feel like I need something traditional to neutralize the modern elements. Can't wait for your insight!

I love to cook....but it wasn't always this way. When I first started dating my future husband, I was terrified of the kitchen. I didn't even know how to make hard boiled eggs. My mom and dad cooked, but I never paid attention or cared how the food ended up on my plate. It wasn't until 2001 when I discovered Nigella Bites on the Style Network that I became motivated to be a "domestic goddess." I was mesmerized with how easy and natural she made it look. I went out and purchased all of her books published in the US. I graduated to Saturday mornings spent hungover with my roommates watching "cooking school" on the Food Network. I loved Sarah Molten and Bobby Flay!! But it wasn't until I started watching Everyday Italian with Giada de Laurentiis that I truly felt inspired. Not only is Giada bubbly and adorable, her food is really doable! Her show always has a stylish theme and the recipes are fantastic! I went to one of her book signings in NYC a few years ago (when I lived there) and she was even better in person. I have all of her books and they are great. Below is one of my favorite recipes, I've made it a dozen times and it is always a crowd pleaser!

Parmesan-Crusted Pork Chops

2 large eggs
1 cup dried Italian-style bread crumbs
3/4 cups freshly grated Parmesan
4 (1/2 to 3/4-inch thick) center-cut pork loin chops (each about 10 to 12 ounces)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
6 tablespoons olive oil
Lemon wedges, for serving

Whisk the eggs in a pie plate to blend. Place the bread crumbs in another pie plate. Place the cheese in a third pie plate. Sprinkle the pork chops generously with salt and pepper. Coat the chops completely with the cheese, patting to adhere. Dip the chops into the eggs, then coat completely with the bread crumbs, patting to adhere.
Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a very large skillet over medium heat. Add pork chops, in batches if necessary, and cook until golden brown and the center reaches 150 degrees, about 6 minutes per side. Transfer the chops to plates and serve with lemon wedges.

Foo Dog statues are an ancient Chinese tradition, typically found guarding temples. Fast forward to 2008 and they've become a must have in stylish homes everywhere. It's hard to open a magazine or catalog without seeing them in some form. I have a pair of Foo Dogs in a brilliant shade of turquoise and I adore them. I purchased them from Plantation Home here in LA. They work in a myriad of looks. I especially love them in a blue and white scheme, for a pop of color.

27 Dresses

I have been fortunate to have escaped the hell of wearing a god-awful bridesmaid dress. My friends haven't been so lucky. In fact, two of my closest girlfriends have been in over 15 weddings since college. One sorority sister even made them do a dance routine (in their hot pink and be-dazzled dresses no less) for the groom. I don't think I could have stomached that one, unless I had the liquid courage of a good bottle of Champagne. Anyway, they have a tradition of leaving the frock in the hotel room, never to be seen again! I like to think the dress I chose for them was not left in the W Hotel on Union Square, but I have a feeling housekeeping opened the closet to a sweet surprise. Oh well!! They paid for them :)

My Chiang Mai!

My first official blog comment was about Schumacher's Chiang Mai Dragon fabric. I had just ordered it to have throw pillows made for my bedroom. I knew Courtney over at Style Court would love it, so I suggested it for a headboard project she was planning. It is truly one of the most beautiful fabrics I've seen.

I've noticed a few blogs knocking Pottery Barn recently, so I couldn't wait to check out their catalog and investigate myself. To my horror, I opened to page 26 and discovered this..........

.....looks very familiar doesn't it??!! Way too similar to my beloved Chiang Mai!!! They basically replaced the dragon with a bird! It was like seeing a knock-off of that coveted Chanel bag you waited months to get.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a retail snob. I mix my Marc Jacobs with my H&M. But for some reason, this depresses me! I guess I can take pride in the fact that I know and have the "original." Sniff, sniff....

I just adore J. Crew. They have that "Modern Prep" look down. I find wardrobe staples there every season and Spring '08 is looking to be no exception! Just check out these new additions to their expanding jewelry collection. They look vintage but without the high price tag. Even the most basic tank top and jeans will look chic if you're sporting one of these!

It started so innocently......it was a random lazy Sunday, my husband was watching football and I was pouring over my usual catalogues and decor magazines. I got on my computer to check my e-mail and I decided to google Kelly Wearstler, just for kicks (she is one of my style icons!). And there I found it, my first blog.... Style Court. I started reading and loved it so much that it has became a daily obsession! I now have multiple blog faves and I log on religiously for my fix of design! How could I not join in on the fun?
